This condition makes the skin less hydrated, nourished and protected. In severe cases, xerosis can also be caused by kidney disease, zinc and essential fatty acid deficiency, thyroid disease, and neurological disorders.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xerosis usually shows up on the legs of the elderly, but can also be seen on the hands and trunk. Splits and fissures appear on the skin and, if they reach the deep layers, can cause bleeding.
